Over the next 5-10 years a major infrastructure investment will be
made to preserve chimpanzees and other great apes in captivity.
Without such rapid action, chimpanzees may be lost forever.
South Louisiana has been at the hub of an international effort
to spearhead a solution to this problem. Louisiana is ideally
situated because:
-
Chimpanzee observatories must be built in moderate
climates allowing the animals to be outdoors year-round.
This means observatories will be built South of I-20.
-
South Louisiana’s sub-tropical climate and water
resources for the moats are perfectly suited for such a
facility.
